On Saturday 27th January, playing for The Rapids, Steve Woodrow made his 700th Reading YMCA FC appearance!

MARK LEMM PRESENTS STEVE WOODROW WITH A SILVER SALVER TO COMMEMORATE THE OCCASION

Steve made his debut for Reading YMCA FC in 1991 at the age of 18. Starting out as a tricky winger with pinpoint delivery & goal scoring threat, Steve was a key member of the team that rose from the Thames Valley League (then the Reading Football League) Division Two to the Premier League in the 1990s and early 2000s.

When the Reading YMCA Rapids were formed in 2007, Steve transitioned into that squad and forged a new career as a left back at the tender age of 34. Also, briefly managing the side a couple of years later along with player Mark Isley. Steve has been an ever present in the side since then.

Amazingly, despite making 700 appearances for the club, Steve actually missed 2 seasons during his 30+ year time with Reading YMCA FC. In 1992 Steve had a season away from the club to play at a higher level and in 2006 decided to retire, only to be tempted back the following season.

Steve’s longevity is a testimony to his fitness levels, technical ability & love for the club. His contributions also extend beyond the pitch and he sits on the Reading YMCA FC committee helping to guide the club into the future.

700 appearances is a magnificent achievement for a grassroots player and nobody would rule out Steve making 800 appearances in the coming seasons.

A true YM legend.
